Feelin' Lucky

Every since I was little, I've loved St.Patrick's Day.  Part of my connection to the holiday has to do with the fact that my family lived in Ireland.  Though we didn't live there very long, we grew to love the people, places, foods, language, accent, and the traditions.

This year, I really wanted to make St. Patrick's Day special for other people, instead of just enjoying it myself.  It started early on by getting my tablecloths out.  Then, I'd wear something green every day - socks, earrings, hair-clip or bobby pins, and of course clothes.  That was it for the most part UNTIL...

- -Attack of the Leprechaun- -

The stairs were littered with a  "Leprechaun trail".  At the bottom stood our little table where 5 little "pots of gold" waited for my roommates to wake up and come down.  Each packet was tied to a little story I wrote.  Here's what the story said:

"Early on St. Patrick's Day, just before the sun splintered over the mountain tops, a little Leprechaun slid down the rainbow, peeked through the grass, and spotted you.  He said to himself, "she's worth at least a pot of gold," and set one down.  Then, realizing his pockets were empty, turned a nearby rock into a gold nugget exclaiming: "I hope she knows that she's worth all this and more, that she's the best at being herself, and that she's full of goodness and made of greatness.  I know she'll become something marvelous someday, if she'll never give up."  Hearing you begin to stir and awaken, he hopped back on a cloud and disappeared."

Within the packet were candies that fit with each part of the story.  Rainbow - rainbow SourPatch strip and Skittles, Grass - green apple sour Twizzlers, Gold - butterscotch candy coins, Gold nugget - Hershey's Nugget.

But the fun couldn't end there...

- -Shamrock Search- -
The Leprechaun left another note with directions and subtle hints to a hidden treasure - A Million Dollars.  Actually, it was a "Million Dollar Chocolate Bar".  BUT...one condition was that the roommates had to wait till after church.  It was funny to see some of them squirm and ask for hints.

Little One found it!
I enjoyed this St. Patrick's day more than any other.  I loved seeing the faces on my roommates as they hunted and tore the apt apart.  I loved hearing the happy sighs as they'd say "Oh Anne...you and your holidays".  I loved feeling the joy of having a secret plot of fun.  I loved bringing smiles to everyone's faces.
