New

President and Sister Condie are leaving us this week.  President Miles arrives on the 28th in the afternoon and the Condies leave early on the 29th.  Not much overlap.  We get to meet President Miles at Personal INterviews on the 30th...not much time for jet lag.  Because this change is happening late in the transfer, the transfer has been extended to the 12th. This transfer is now 7 weeks long.  We'Re not sure what will happen with next transfer...5 weeks to catch up or the normal 6.  We'll see!!

Just a fun FYI - Sister Covey (one of the Sisters we are sharing the appt with) is a member of THE Covey family - Stephen R. and such.  She'S amazing and we figured out how we knew each other (you know, the Mormon 'do you know' game).  Turns out, we had a German class together at BYU.  It was a class where the Prof had me be in charge of a class project for the SPecial Collections.  I was in charge of making sure the translations from the ancient script were done right, and Sis Covey was  in the class.  That was a fun ah-hah moment.  It's a small (Mormon) world afterall!!  It's weird to think that she is finishing her mission this transfer and heading home in a week or two.  WEIRD!  Even weirder is when I read mom's email saying that I've been out a year.  OH MAN!!  July 14th is the start of the new transfer and the beginning of the 'downhill slope'.  Oh boy!

This week, we finally got the ward to step up and help us with the work.  Since the Elders left us everything, we have had to meet with SOOOO many men.  The rule is, we cn meet with them alone as long as another woman is present; or when three men are there we can just teach them.  Needless to say, it's been impossible to get members to come...especially the Sisters.  This week, I came up with a plan...a calendar (similar to the 'feed the missionaries' one we have in PA) but this one lists availability times for each dayof the present week.   We passed them around in Sunday School and RS\EQ and people actually signed up this week.  Last week we got so many people complaining about the calendar and getting calls from us askng for them to come with us.  The bishop gave a great mini talk on how much we actually have to handle now and the members have stepped up.

Last Monday, all of the Sisters in our apt got together and went to an amazing lookout place above Vienna.  We saw the whole city and it was marvelous!!

FUnky eating story of the week....because every missionary has them...and I'Ve got more.  So, we're teaching these new converts Sarita and Om (from Nepal).  When they came to Austria, they were living together.  Om was found by the missionaries and they began teaching the two of them.  The reason they weren't married is because they hadn't been able to get their paperwork.  BUT, when they realized that they wanted to be baptized SO BAD, Sarita and Om each found a new apt within a week.  They got baptized and are now going on 6 months as members...separately.  They are bundles of energy and love to tease each other.  It's one of the happiest non-married marriages I have ever seen.  This month, they have finally been able to get the gov'T to look at their case.  Pray all goes well for them.  ANyway, to the food part of the story. Sis C asked them what is something they miss from home and immediately Sarita said, 'real food'.  Om described traditional Nepal food and then offered to make Mo Mo for us.  So, Fri night we went to their house.  Mo Mo is kind of like Pot Stickers served with an extremely spicy sauce.  Om is the master of his village back home.  He started off by giving us each 4, then when we'D finished them , it was my turn to go make the juice and while I was gone, he'd piled 10 more on everyone'S plates.  Too late to turn back he says.  So, I continued to try and eat all 10.  Man, was my stomach stretching (painfully).  Sadly, though they are the mose excellent thing I've had here in Vienna, I could only eat 3 more.  BUT, while Om was gone making more Mo Mo, Sarita and I both snuck a couple from my plate to his (at separate moments...while I wasn't looking she did it).  Sarita started to chuckle and said 'he'll never know'.  He came back and boy oh boy did he know.  It was the funniest reaction I have ever seen.  He called me a whimp for not being able to eat that many.  Sis C eats like a horse so it was super easy for her.  I loved the spicy sauce nd the Mo Mo themselves, but my stomach is just not as big as the Elders' or as most Sisters here in this mission (so Sis Condie has decided).  Om and Sarita are really wonderful and Om received the Priesthood on Sun too.

Ekarin'S baptism is going to be great!  On Sunday we had his interview.  Our Zone Leader did it and decided it would be fun to play a trick on me. (He and I went in to the MTC on the same day).  The interview seemed to take forever and Sis C (worrywart) was getting ancy so I sent her to make copies of the invitations so she'd settle down.  Elder Ronna (the ZL) and Ekarin came up a couple minutes later, each with long faces.  E. Ronna whispered to me 'we'll talk about it...he needs 6 more mon' and Ekarin looked devastated.  I just took it calmly saying that it happens and we'll work with him on it.  E. Ronna asked if he could speak with me and Sis C together so I went to get her, telling her to stop copyig and cutting the invites.  When we returned, E. Ronna told her what he'd told me.  Sis C freaked out.  Then, Ekarin started to chuckle and let it out. THey'd been faking it the whole time.  Sis C was so mad, but everyone else was laughing hysterically.  It was so funny!  E. Ronna reminded me that in the MTC he'd promised to tease me good the first chance he got.  He did it for sure, but apparently I disappointed him with my reaction.  LIttle Boys!  It's funny to think that'S the only kind of pranks you can really play on a mission and the only satisfaction you can really get...teasing other missionaries.

Lots of Liebe

Pic2 - True light of Om . . just joking around.  Sarita told him he was short, and he in turn said she was old ( a joke he always plays on her)
