Shley and I were the only ones home with nothing to do tonight so we decided to go to the Volleyball game vs. UCSD (San Diego). There was a group going with us so we pretty much dominated the student section. I sat by 2 Sam 25:12, and in front of Shley and Brinkerhoff. Peoria, A-Funk, and McKay came and sat with us too. About mid-way through the first match some guy appeared next to me and asked if I wanted to participate in a contest after this game. Sure, why not! Then, I found out it was a "Name that Tune" to win a 4GB iPod nano. That's when I started to get worried. If they were going to do recent hits and such, I was sunk...oldies/musicals I can do, anything else, don't ask me. They pulled a guy out of the audience as well, so it was going to be just the two of us to guess best out of 5. The host was going to sing the songs to us instead of playing the original over the loudspeaker like they usually do. I got a little more nervous. Cosmo came over and hung on me for moral support (and kept yanking my arm up as if to raise my hand because I knew the answer). I had the best cheering section of my friends cheering me on, but I was still nervous.
1st song, "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, I got it (thanks dad for engraving Billy in my brain growing up). 2nd song, "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from Evita, I got it (thanks mom for making me a fan of musicals), 3rd song "Let It Be" Beatles, he got it...but I knew it, I was just a hair too slow. 4th song, "In the Still of the Night" he got it (never heard of it). Okay, last question, last song, last chance. "Mysterious Ways" by U2, I get it (Cosmo helped me guess it...well, with the band name at least...yeah for Charades). I'd never heard the song before. And, that's how I won an iPod nano. I really had fun and I didn't think I could do it.
When I got back to my seat to enjoy the game everyone was telling me how I should've gotten the title of that last song. Hey, if ya don't know it, ya don't know it...and I certainly didn't. Then there was speculation about a certain friend who was or was not a certain character. Still not sure on that one.

Puck a Buck
So this past week, my roommates and I decided to shake things up a bit and do a "Backwards date". By that I mean that we plan, pay, and ask a guy on a date. We decided to make it "guy-friendly" and go to a hockey game. We got our tickets an hour early and went to get ice cream before the game actually started. We got up close and personal with the players and could feel the ice splinters spraying from their skates. Best of all, it was a BYU vs. Utah hockey game that BYU totally dominated! There was yelling, shouting, fighting, and cheering...off the ice...players fighting on the ice. Not knowing too much about the sport, we trusted whole-heartedly in the little handbook/program we were given. It had referree calls, rules, regulations, and explanations. Between plays and at halftime we entertained ourselves with name-that-tune and trying to outguess SHAZAAM (an iPhone application for identifying songs and artists). It was a really exciting night and we can't wait till we do it again.
